Raman Spectroscopy:

Using a new Bruker SENTERRA dispersive Raman microscope we are able to provide our clients with the advantages of the newest technology available in the world of Raman Spectroscopy.
  • Internal continuous calibration ensuring the highest wavenumber accuracy without the need for calibrations with external standards
  • Multiple wavelengths: 1064 nm, 785 nm, 633 nm, 532 nm and 488 nm

Cathodoluminescence picture


Cathodoluminescence is a process where materials subjected to electron excitation, absorb the electrons and re-emit the energy as visible light. The materials may include crystals, minerals, ceramics, glass and other amorphous solids. Brilliant luminescence may be observed in the visible spectrum but energy may also be emitted in UV and IR wavelengths. Activator impurity elements that are often responsible for the luminescence can be detected in the ppm and ppb range.

Hi-Vol PLM Analysis:

Samples collected on high volume air filters often need to be analyzed by PLM to determine the particle types present as well as their average masses. Every particle detected is measured and assigned to one of the particle categories predetermined by the clients needs (e.g. Biological, Mineral, Wood, Opaques, Lime, etc.) This provides us with average size, mass and weight percent data. Combining this information with the volume of air as well as the total sample weight allows for particle mass/unit air volume data to be calculated.

Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM):

When feature sizes of less then 100nm need to be resolved or when the samples needs to be imaged at very low accelerating voltage, such as when it can not be coated, then FE-SEM is recommended. While the incredible resolution provide by FE-SEM is overkill for 99% of all SEM project, when it is needed it has saved the day for some of our most challenging project.

Colorizing SEM Images:

For marketing purposes the standard black and white SEM image does not always cut it. Adding color to an SEM image can give it that pop that makes your ad or presentation. But digitally adding false color to an image requires costly and confusing software, can be very time consuming and even then your results will likely not be as good as you had hoped. At least that was our experience when we have tried to colorize our images over the years. Luckily we found an artist that is also an expert at digitally colorizing SEM images that will provide this service for our clients. Below is some of her work with our SEM images and it is quite frankly some of the best we have ever seen.
